A Photo Story: Amaya through the eyes of a guest

As you approach our sanctuary, tucked within the terraced hills, the world beyond seems to dissolve away. The road meanders through the hills, the air becoming fresher and sweeter while you pass through little towns and villages in the foothills. Then, Amaya reveals itself—not as an intrusion upon the landscape, but rather an extension of it–stone walls and copper roofs in harmony with the earth and sky.

Integrated amidst the terraces before you are villas of dry-stacked stone and lime plaster, every element of which tells a story of care and handmade craftsmanship, from the local wood and marble to the Scandinavian minimalist fixtures. Enter a cosy cocoon and relax while natural light and shadow mingle within the space. Soft sunlight filters gently through the marble shutters, igniting all the warm, earthy colours and textures of the villa walls.

Narrow paths wind through the site, inviting you to explore further. A gentle symphony to accompany your exploration through our retreat: the crunch of pine needles underfoot punctuated with trills of birdsong. Walking through Amaya is like a re-discovery of the world in its purest form. The paths lead you through our pine forest terraces, the ground soft with fallen needles.

The scent of pine and deodar cedar mingles in the air and sunlight shimmers through the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the ground. Your experience of nature becomes a series of precious treasures: a spider’s web catching the dew, wild strawberries peeking from under their green leaves. Notice how alive the terraces are with quiet industry, bees and butterflies humming around all the flowering herbs and crisp vegetables.

The rhythm of the Amaya life is marked by moments of both reflection and indulgence. Take a pause by our pool’s natural vantage point. See how the play of clouds and sunlight transforms the world around you into a living painting. Sit back with your favourite drink and savour the stillness, the wind whispering through the pines. The photos our guests take from here are stunning, but nothing quite conveys its sublime tranquility like sitting poolside and looking out over a surface that seems to stretch out into the infinite.

And when twilight descends, Amaya becomes a world of quiet enchantment. The last rays of sunlight cast sienna colours on the stone walls and glow on the copper roofs. The sounds of the day give way to the forest’s nocturnal soundscape, crickets and rustling leaves. Fireflies dance in the hills, little golden lights punctuating the darkness like the stars in the clear night sky.

The Amaya life is not just about escaping, but returning: returning to simplicity, to nature, to a mindful connection with the world. Profound moments of peace, when time seems to stop and stretch in the stillness, feel like a rediscovery of something truly essential. And that’s what characterises every aspect of life here: a renewed appreciation for beauty, quiet, and the art of living well.
